You really never cease to amaze me my friend. You are always fighting so hard to get back what you lost all the time moving forward. Always creating and making life fascinating for everyone around you. You are a true artist 🎨 â¤ï¸
Dear Muses,
I’m a published writer who hasn’t published any thing in the last few years. I am a poet that has but fragments to offer since 2015.
I have aphasia. Aphasia is when “one or more modes of communication in the brain have been damaged and are therefore functioning incorrectly.” Some people have aphasia as a consequence of a traumatic brain injury, or from dementia. Some, like me, acquire damage from adverse effects of medical treatment.
Not good for a writer, not good at all.
I can process audiobooks okay but reading books that I can hold in my hands as I drift off to sleep is not possible any more. My brain starts jumping and I have trouble processing longer phrases. Reading is the foundation of my writing so that’s taken a few light body blows as well.
Throwing myself headlong into a life of making visual art and art wearables is the result of my not being able to communicate in the most efficacious way with words as before and also as a stopgap measure against becoming quite depressed (and also a bit mad).
Another way my brain’s processing is affected is that technology that was once very much in my wheelhouse of acquired skill sets is suddenly inaccessible; it’s like I never knew the stuff!
All very discouraging to be blocked in this medium of communication (visual art) because I’m struggling with the tech to get my website up and running as a business website.
You have all been quite patient with me, those that are still visiting from time to time have seen very few changes.
It feels like a dead site because it basically is.
My intention is to do better at keeping y’all looped in and engaged!
This brief blog entry is my stepping out of the shadows and saying,
“Heck yeah, this is hard. But since when has hard ever stopped you, Yvette?”
Slows me down a bit, it does, yeah.
But, I’m not dead yet, so I’m not done trying either.
Giddyap! Muses
